About Us

Central Kentucky Community Action Council, Inc. (CKCAC) was established on January 3, 1967 as a federally funded, non-profit agency that provides programs, assistance and services that aid in the elimination of poverty and the promotion of family self-sufficiency in the counties of Hardin, Larue, Marion Meade, Nelson and Washington.  CKCAC provides the Head Start Program as an avenue for breaking the cycle of poverty by providing quality, comprehensive education services to at-risk preschool age children (ages birth to five) in an effort to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs.  Our early educational intervention intends to facilitate positive outcomes by preparing children for successful entry into kindergarten.  Since its inception, Head Start has nationally served more than 32 million children, birth to age 5, and their families. Head Start prides itself in being the nation’s premier early education program as supported by annually serving nearly one million children and pregnant women in centers, family homes, and in family child care homes in urban, suburban, and rural communities throughout the country.
